Yo! I received some beautiful messages from you after that last email.
The one thing that stood out was that I have no idea who my writing benefits, but it’s benefiting someone.
By “no idea,” I mean there are people here, like you, reading this, whose lives I can’t even begin to imagine. You have struggles I’ll never have, dreams I can’t begin to think of, and lives full of challenges, losses, loves, and wins only you and God know.
To me, that’s amazing.
This is why even when I feel discouraged that “no one is commenting back,” I have to suck it up and stop taking so many breaks.
This brings us to yesterday.
I signed up for a Medium Writing Course.
Well, technically, I didn’t “pay” for it. The author was super generous to keep us freeloaders on the program and even grant access to the Slack group.
For some reason, I decided to open one of the emails he’d sent, and I saw that I had access to this relatively expensive course—all for free.
I didn’t have to pay anything.
On the one hand, I felt terrible that I’m using someone’s knowledge for free and I should buy the course. On the other hand, I felt the best way to pay back this author would be to become his best student and recruit other writers.
Here’s the caveat: I must become a better writer and succeed on Medium if I want to prove his course works.
I have to study, write, show up, and actually follow instructions.
It’s still the early hours of my enthusiasm. I’ve made a small plan and have blocked an hour per day to write.
I outlined, wrote, edited, and published my “first” post in over two weeks on Medium to cement my commitment.
Between you and me, the article is trash. But I just wanted to get the ball rolling.
This week’s goals:
Submit two articles to two publications
Publish one more on my own profile. So, three articles in total.
That’s where you come in. Whenever I write an article or get published, I’ll send it your way so you can read and clap on Medium.
Why? Clapping is how Medium knows people are enjoying my writing, and it could get shared with more readers.
I have lost my skill because of my break. And I know that if I don’t show up daily and publish weekly, I’ll never get back to a place where I can write easily.
Of all the ways that I create content, writing remains my first and only love. There’s something about having my voice on screen that’s mildly addictive.
Also, because of reasons I can’t talk about yet, I have to grow as a writer on Medium and leverage the platform as a source of income.
I know it’s possible. I just need to put in the work.
So, recap:
I’m taking a Medium course to become a success story for a course creator who has been generous with his skill
I’ll be sharing the stories I write here with you so you can clap and read and potentially leave comments there, so my writing gets eyeballs.
Feel free to hit reply and share your thoughts. As always, if you don’t like these emails, the unsubscribe button is at the bottom. I’ll miss you, but I’d rather we like each other :)
In case you missed the article, here’s a link. I’d love a comment, but if you can simply read and clap, I’d appreciate it.
Thank you!
